ry eye syndrome (DED) is due to insufficient tear secretion, excessive tear evaporation, or poor tear quality, leading to inadequate lubrication and hydration of the ocular surface. It is one of the most common ocular surface disorders. As the prevalence of dry eye continues to rise, there have been new developments and breakthroughs in the treatment of dry eye in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, alongside conventional treatments, methods such as orally taken TCD, topical ointments, fumigation, acupuncture, and acupoint massage are combined with modern medicine to treat dry eye. Additionally, the 2022 Asian Dry Eye Consensus introduced a novel concept of tear film-oriented therapy.
